Maggie Betley and Tracy Wright specialize in teaching hand-building techniques, including coiling, slab work and sculpting. Learn how glazes work and how to control your glazes with Lawrence Ewing author of Matrix Glaze Software A course for English speaking potters and ceramic artists residing outside New Zealand. There is no deadline for joining the course. It is a self-paced program that you can join at any time.
Course Details
The Matrix Glaze Technology course is designed to provide an understanding of ceramic glaze fundamentals for studio potters. The course approaches the subject from an analytical point of view focusing on the chemistry of glaze and includes tutorials in the use of Matrix Glaze Software.
The course consist of 30 lessons each of which delivers on-line content and activities that potters or ceramic artists can complete in their own workshops or studios in their own time.
Throughout the course you have email access to the author and tutor Lawrence Ewing and to other students for advice, discussion and further explanation of course content.

Costs £12.50 per Two and half hour class - this covers all firing and materials costs (clay, glazes, tools etc. (within reason)).
Sign up for a two week taster if you like for £25, make a pot or 2 one week and glaze the pots next week take home week after.
If you're up for it 6 week class £70 (£5 saving) where I'll take you though all the basics I possibly can, coiling, slabbing, extruder work, glazing even a try on the wheel if that's what you're after.

Pandora School of arts and crafts
The Pandora workshops are located in the medieval town of Sorano, in southern Tuscany. The various workshops at Pandora, are inside the imposing Orsini Fortress in Sorano, and are fully equipped for the different activities: ceramics, glass, painting techniques, sculpture, restoring and photography. Pandora organises a variety of courses, mostly in summer, of a duration of one or two weeks: a large part of the courses are designed to widen students knowledge of the applied arts. The course structures are of a high standard, employing qualified artists and teachers. Outline of the courses The courses are held in the Fortezza Orsini in Sorano where the teaching laboratories are situated. All courses, except for the advanced ones, start at a basic level and therefore do not require any particular previous experience on the part of the pupils. Lessons have a duration of 5\8 hours (depending on the course) for all the days -holidays included- indicated in the attached schedule. Extra activities during the courses: as well as the courses, the school organizes visits to places of archaeological, historical and natural interest in the neighbouring countryside: Etruscan necropolis, the medieval towns of Sovana and Pitigliano, the rocky settlements of Vitozza, Lake Bolsena, the thermal baths at Saturnia, the neighbouring towns Viterbo, Orvieto and Tarquinia.

Our non residential courses range from 2 or 3 day weekends to 4 or 6 day courses where there is a opportunity for you to push the boundaries.
